What Is the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and What does that mean for Beontag clients?

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a new law introduced by the European Union to fight deforestation and forest degradation caused by the production and trade of certain agricultural and forestry products. Taking effect with its main obligations from December 30, 2025, the EUDR requires that only products proven to be deforestation-free and compliant with relevant local laws can circulate or be sold on the European market. Products affected by this regulation include soy, beef, palm oil, wood, rubber, coffee, cocoa, and their derivatives – notably, paper.

This regulation has a significant impact on industries that rely on raw materials linked to deforestation, such as paper, packaging, and supply chains involving wood-based products. For companies like Beontag, which offers solutions including labels, packaging, and RFID items, the EUDR means that the origins of materials—especially those derived from wood or paper—must be thoroughly monitored and verified to ensure they do not contribute to deforestation.

Beontag will operate as an Operator under the EUDR, since it supplies paper-based products covered by the relevant CN codes outlined by the regulation. In order to be compliant, Beontag will register comprehensive Due Diligence Statements (DDS) for these products on the EU’s TRACES platform by December this year. These statements will provide detailed information about the origin of the regulated raw materials and describe the due diligence procedures implemented throughout our entire supply chain.

Products in Beontag’s portfolio that contain paper or components derived from wood—whether manufactured inside or outside of the European Union—are directly affected whenever they are placed on or exported to the EU market. This calls for robust traceability and transparency so clients can be confident that Beontag’s paper-based products are responsibly sourced and deforestation-free.

For Beontag’s clients, EUDR compliance brings greater assurance that the solutions and products they purchase are produced in accordance with strict European sustainability guidelines, supporting their own compliance and reinforcing ESG reporting. It is important to highlight that the EUDR applies not only to companies in the EU, but also to suppliers and manufacturers outside of Europe who sell regulated products to the EU market. This global reach encourages responsible sourcing and transparency throughout worldwide supply chains connected to the EU.

Beontag’s implementation of measures required by the EUDR benefits our clients in several ways, including reliable sustainability assurance, enhanced traceability of paper and wood materials, reduced legal and reputational risks, readiness for future environmental regulations, and the ongoing support of a company committed to environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.

To learn more and access answers to frequently asked questions about the EUDR and Beontag’s actions for compliance, please refer to our detailed PDF document available here.

If you have any specific questions or require documentation related to EUDR compliance, our team is always available to assist through our commercial contacts or at esg@beontag.com
